The Word of The Week

Petrichor - the pleasant, earthy smell after rain

Petrichor not only sounds great as a word with all of those strong syllables, it also relates to a really lovely smell.

It takes you to a time when you have been outside in autumn, maybe on a long Sunday afternoon walk, and it rains.

You all hide under a big oak tree, waiting for the clouds to pass, little droplets falling on your coat and head, listening to that tip tap sound.

Then when it does stop, you re-emerge from your leafy den of foliage and take a deep breath.

You inhale the sweet and deep smell of the now wet earth.
